By Good Sams own Healing Touch Practitioner, Nicole Kasemir, RN, HN, HTCP
“Healing Touch is an example of an intentional caring-healing modality grounded in ethics, philosophy, values and consciousness consistent with my original Theory of Human Caring and Transpersonal Caring. Thus, there is a convergence between my…work in Caritas Nursing and Healing Touch – they both work from an energetic framework of Universal Love as the basis for all healing and all caring-healing relationships”.
Jean Watson, PhD, RN, AHN-BC, FAAN
Founder, Watson Caring Science Institute.
Jean Watson, Distinguished Professor at the University of Colorado, can be viewed as the modern Florence Nightingale. Both of them developed a philosophy and a science of caring for the patients as whole people with physical, emotional, mental and spiritual needs, to support them on their healing journey. This perspective on caring, once adopted and practiced by the nurses, doctors and all caregivers, makes the patients feel respected, listened to and nurtured. This Caritas service behavior mentality eventually permeates into the caregivers’ behavior toward everyone they interact with, including their own awareness for their self-care needs.
Jean Watson was grateful to recognize in Healing Touch – its teaching, values and practice, the “embodiment” of her Caring Theory. Following is the parallel for each Caritas process found in Healing Touch Program, at all the levels of its curriculum. (Please refer to the poster above for the corresponding numbers.)
