Leading Therapy in Energy Medicine
Healing Touch (HT) is an energy–based therapeutic approach to health and healing. It uses light touch and compassionate intentionality to influence the energy system of a person, thus affecting his/her physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual state. The goal of HT is to restore harmony and balance in the human energy system, setting the stage for self–healing.
Some of the first responses to receiving a HT session, is deep relaxation, a letting go, a calming of the mind. Carol Komitor, the founder of Healing Touch for Animals, has developed a chart describing a theoretical model of the ‘Physiological Response of Energy Healing’ (Healing Touch Level 1 Notebook, p. 37) “during an energy-medicine treatment”. The relaxation of the body and mind “releases endorphins in the brain”, which triggers the following chain reaction (simplified): Endorphins relax the muscles; this increases the blood circulation, bringing more oxygen and nutrients to the cells and detoxifying the tissues; this in turn supports better regeneration of the body and promotes healing. When all the systems function well, the natural immunity of the body is strengthened. “The resulting stability within the immune system affects the physical, emotional, mental and spiritual facets of the body’s energy field supporting self–healing”. A strong immune system is also instrumental in the prevention of disease.
Looking at the body–mind connection, it is now common knowledge that our thoughts can play havoc with our state of health. Worry too much, you may develop an ulcer or end up having a heart attack. Choose joyful thoughts, you will experience a sense of well–being and radiate happiness, which also affects your environment. So, create opportunities for your mind to de–stress: Imagine the romantic exchange of these chipmunks; remember how you marveled at the tiny fingers of your baby wrapped tightly around your finger; visualize the morning dew on the grass turning into a bed of diamonds in the sunrise. All these images calm the mind, but also bring a smile on your face and open your heart with unconditional love.
There are other means to relax, reduce anxiety, support your healing process and enhance your sense of wellbeing.
